School Advisory Councils

Parents want to know what's happening in their children's schools, and take a hands-on approach to education. School Advisory Councils (SAC) are intended to give parents a say in what's going on at school, from policies to extra-curricular programs, fundraising and more.

School Advisory Councils (SAC) bring partners together to make decisions and solve problems in the best interest of student learning. All partners on the SAC have a voice so that the needs of students are represented and the school is responsive to the community it serves.

The fundamental purpose of the SAC is to ensure that all students receive the best possible learning opportunities by engaging partners in an ongoing process of problem solving and shared decision making.

Meetings

The responsibilities of the Council include:  supporting the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, advising and supporting with school policies, procedures and initiatives; representing our school at Board initiated meetings or committees required by the HRSB.

The School Advisory Council would not be involved in day to day management of the school or in issues related to staffing.

The meetings are open to the public and an agenda is prepared in advance with the key participants.  Should the parent of a student at Ash Lee Jefferson Elementary School wish to have an item added to the agenda, please contact the SAC Chair at least one week before the meeting to be added to the agenda.  The Chair and the Principal will take all submissions to the agenda and allot a specific time for each to be presented and discussed by the SAC.
